Heartfelt Highlights: OC’s Community Update for the Year 2023

At OC, community is not just a buzzword; it’s an ongoing commitment. Here are some highlights from 2023, a year marked by compassion, dedication, and community triumphs:

Sarcoma & Bone Cancer Research Foundation Association (SA)

Sarcoma research holds a special place in our hearts, driven by the personal connection of two OC directors whose family members faced this rare form of cancer. This year, we focused our efforts on supporting the Sarcoma & Bone Cancer Research Foundation Association (SA) through various initiatives, emphasising our dedication to both research and providing support to affected families.

We organised our annual table tennis tournament and a ‘Movie Night’ client fundraiser at the Capri Theatre, successfully generating a remarkable $25,242.36 for SABCRFA (SA).

Vinnies CEO Sleepout

Recognising the privilege of home ownership and acknowledging the disparity between those with homes and the homeless, OC has been a consistent supporter of Vinnies. This year, we organised the OC Quiz Night, a Walkathon Fundraiser, and our leaders actively participated in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout. Collectively, these efforts raised an impressive $35,437 to break the cycle of homelessness and support Vinnies’ essential services across Australia.

Share the Dignity

In the spirit of Christmas, OC annually supports Share the Dignity, an initiative ensuring that women, teens, and mothers facing financial constraints receive essential toiletries. Setting a target of 80+ bags, we proudly donated a total of 82 bags, spreading joy and dignity during the festive season.

We’re a compassionate bunch – our team went above and beyond, organising impactful initiatives individually throughout the year. “Soup and Sleep,” spearheaded by Sharon Gray and Valerie Timms, aimed to ensure that “No-One Goes Hungry.” Mandy Doolan led the “Walk a Mile” campaign, supporting those facing homelessness, and Tayla Grimes organised a “Morning Tea” to raise awareness for Endometriosis. This Christmas, the OC Lonsdale team hosted a heartwarming Santa Cave, offering free photos with Santa and raising funds for Heartfelt.org, just to name a few of our meaningful efforts.

OC was nationally recognised as the “Social & Community Service Program of the Year” in February at the REBs 2023. In October, our efforts were acknowledged with the “Community Service” award at the REISAs 2023. Additionally, we’re thrilled to announce our nomination for the “Social & Community Service Program of the Year” at the REBs 2024. These recognitions are a testament to the OC team’s steadfast commitment to serving the community.
